Zellkörper
Choreographic Object | 2021
Zellkörper unfolds the fragile tension between freedom and limitation through choreographed movements. Leather skins act like living cells—trapped yet autonomous within an isolating space. The work invites reflection on our role as individual parts within a larger, living whole.
Zellkörper is a choreographic installation where leather skins inflate, retract, and struggle for space like living organisms—trapped inside a black acrylic box that isolates them like a laboratory environment. This work reflects the delicate balance between separation and connection that defines cells as the smallest units of life, while simultaneously unfolding a meditation on the tension between freedom and limitation.
An algorithm controls the movements with a hint of randomness, making the skins appear not only choreographed but also alive, unpredictable, and autonomous—like independent organisms striving for space but not allowed to leave it.
Viewers are invited not only to observe the pulsating forms but also to perceive the exhibition space and the people moving within it through the gaps between the leather skins. Thus, the boundaries between object and environment, inside and outside, individual and collective, become blurred.
Zellkörper points to the fundamental truth that we humans are nothing other than “cells” ourselves—autonomous units embedded in a complex, multilayered organism. Within this insight lies a silent invitation to reflect on our role and existence within the vast fabric of life.
